Most of us don't have a problem focusing when we feel like it, which is fine. But success doesn't come about by doing things when we feel like it.
If you don't know who Derek Sivers is, you're missing out. He's a cooky entrepreneur who founded CD Baby, then sold it and gave the money to charity. He has a gift for deep work and his thoughts on focus are bar none:
"First understand the do-or-die importance of focus. If you don’t learn to focus, you will have a shallow and unrewarding life without any meaningful achievements. So make it a priority."
It's that important, and I'm having trouble with it. That's why it is the theme for my 2017. (I don't like resolutions, because why wait to start something?)
